Box Score MOBILE, Ala. – The Belhaven men's basketball team set the tone early and never looked back en route to an impressive 85-69 Southern States Athletic Conference win at the University of Mobile Thursday night. "The guys played great from start to finish and this may be our most complete game of the season," said Belhaven Head Coach John Aiken. "The player really executed our game plan on both ends of the floor. I'm really happy with the way our team continues to grow and buy in."

After building the early first half lead, Belhaven (10-9, 8-3 SSAC) saw the advantage dwindle to two points at 17-15 midway through the first half. However, back to back field goals by Jordan Bedford cut off the Rams rally and sparked a 15-4 Blazers run that boosted the lead out to double digits again at 32-19. Belhaven went to the locker room at halftime with a 41-30 edge.

Mobile (10-9, 5-5 SSAC West) managed to pull back within six early in the second half, but would get no closer the rest of the night. Belhaven's largest lead occurred on a triple from Datodrick Pinkston with 2:48 to go in the second half. At that point, the Blazers led 83-65 on their way to the 85-69 final.

Jordan Bedford, the reigning SSAC Player of the Week, led Belhaven with a game high 22 points on 8 of 15 shooting from the field. Chris Cofield followed with 19 points, Pinkston fired in 15, and Deon Bedford contributed 15 points as well. Pinkston paced the Blazers in assists with four and Jonathan Ratliff hauled down a team best six rebounds while chipping in seven points.

Belhaven consistently found the mark from the field, connecting on 31 of 58 shots Thursday night (53.4%). The Blazers were 5 of 16 from behind the three point line (31.3%) and had a solid night at the charity stripe, converting 18 of 24 free throws (75%). Belhaven also had command of the glass, out-rebounding the Rams 36-23.

Mobile was guided by Brandon Morris with 19 points followed by Cody Scott with 18 and CJ McGill with 10. Kwame Beard wrapped up the contest with a team best six rebounds and seven assists to go along with six points. Belhaven's defense limited the Rams to 46.6 percent shooting from the field (27-58) and completely shut down their three point game. Mobile connected on just 3 of 26 attempts from behind the arc.

Belhaven will be back in action on Saturday when the team hosts SSAC rival William Carey in Rugg Arena. The tip-off is slated for 4:00 PM.

"I'm excited for the opportunity ahead of us Saturday and the matchup against a great team in 5th ranked William Carey," Aiken added. "Would love to see Rugg Arena full and loud on Saturday."
