Box Score JACKSON, Miss.- The Belhaven women's volleyball team hosted another non-conference foe Tuesday night in Tougaloo College. The Blazers' second home match resulted in another impressive victory as they swept the Bulldogs in straight sets 25-2, 25-12, 25-15.
"We wanted to play up to our potential and I think we did that for most of the match," said Belhaven Head Coach
Justin Dee. "Our whole game plan was to go out and play Blazer volleyball. It was wonderful, especially in the first set, to see the players make wise decisions and play well."
Belhaven (4-9) led from start to finish and set the tone for night with a resounding 25-2 win in set one. From there, the Blazers took commanding leads in each of the following two sets, allowing a young lineup to gain valuable in game experience.
The Blazers were led on offense by sophomore
Molly Boyer and freshman
Taylor Lafavre with nine kills apiece. Sophomore
Taylor Hall added six points on kills while junior
Alyson Plyler tallied 20 assists. Freshman
Mallory Church added 11 assists of her own in the final two sets of the match.
"Hall and Lafavre had excellent matches," added Dee. "Both players have the potential to do some great things and be top players in the Southern States Athletic Conference."
With the offense firing on all cylinders, the Blazers turned in one of their best showings on that side of the court this season. Belhaven finished the night with a team attack percentage of .458, including a remarkable .714 attack percentage in the first set.
Senior
Katherine Owen, who turned in 13 digs without a reception error, guided the Belhaven defense. Owen also served up five aces in Tuesday's contest.
Tougaloo (1-5) was led by Alexandria Thompson with four kills while Maya Rue ended the match with four digs.
Belhaven will be back on the court Friday night at Spring Hill College for another SSAC contest. First serve is slated for 7:00 PM.
