Blazers Come up Short at Faulkner

Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Belhaven Volleyball team took the court against Faulkner University in their second Southern States Athletic Conference game in as many games. They were unable to overcome the Eagles Saturday, suffering a five set loss with final set scores of 20-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-23, 9-15.

"The ladies came through and fought well," said Head Coach Justin Dee. "We desire to win every match, but our execution was lacking."

Junior Alyson Plyler continued to pace the Blazers, leading them in assists with 45 and scrapping up five digs. "Aly did a great job of distributing the ball," Dee said.

The defense of the Blazers was not able to withhold the onslaught of kills by Faulkner.

"Our defense did not have the outstanding results that we had in the past week," said Dee. "Our positions, defensive movements, and reading were a little off today."

Despite the collective defensive woes, the Blazers were sparked by senior Gabriela Zorzoli's 40 digs. Belhaven was led on offense by Freshman Taylor Hall's 18 kills.

The Blazers will look to continue to push and work hard moving forward as they prepare for more conference opponents.

"We are definitely looking forward to coming back home and getting back on the practice court," Dee said.

Belhaven is slated to begin their next match at 7:00 against Tougaloo College at home on Tuesday.
