Box Score GAINESVILLE, Georgia – The Belhaven volleyball team fell in their Southern States Athletic Conference opener at Brenau University on Friday. The Blazers suffered their eighth loss of the season after three sets with final scores of 26-28, 21-25, and 22-25.
"I take nothing away from Brenau because they definitely outplayed us tonight," Head Coach
Justin Dee said. "We gave points to a team who was way too talented to do that against, and we left a win on the court."
Setter
Alyson Plyler played the most complete match for the Blazers, accumulating 22 assists and 12 digs while leading the team in kills with eight. Sophomore
Taylor Hall added five kills of her own, while
Katherine Owen led the way defensively with 14 digs.
The strong efforts proved insufficient, as Belhaven (3-8) couldn't overcome nine service errors and 21 attack errors. Dee and his squad travel to Montgomery on Saturday to take on Faulkner University, where they will aim to earn their first conference victory.
"We had total control until about midway through the first set, and our decision making went south," Dee said. "We will regroup and give a more efficient effort in tomorrow's match."
Saturday's first serve against the Eagles is slated for 2:00 PM.
