Home Opener Proves Successful for Blazers

Box Score JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven volleyball team took the court against Mississippi College on Tuesday night, looking to bounce back a after a weekend of tough outings in the University of Texas-Tyler tournament. Belhaven was able to answer the call with a big 3-0 victory against the Choctaws.

The Blazers dominated the match, winning in three sets 25-12, 25-15, and 25-19 with outstanding play from freshmen Taylor Hall and Mallory Church.

"Taylor Hall had an amazing two sets, and Mallory Church was able to make shots absolutely score points for us," Head Coach Justin Dee said.

Belhaven came out on fire, winning the first set on three consecutive aces. They were able to use the home crowd of more than 400 fans to their advantage.

"I'm so ecstatic about how the girls fought. I think they are starting to come together," Dee said. "They had a little more pride in who they are on this home court, and I love them for it."

Senior Brittany Ammons led the Blazers in kills with 8, followed by Hall's 7, and sophomore Molly Boyer's 6.

Junior Alyson Plyler paced the team with 26 assists, while seniors Katherine Owen and Gabriella Zorzoli led the Blazers in digs with 10 each.

The Blazers have another action another action-packed weekend in store as the team opens Southern States Athletic Conference play.

"We still have a little room to go, but I think we are beginning to see what we can do if we come together and find our identity," Dee said.

The Blazers are slated to take on Brenau University 6:00 PM on Friday in Gainesville, Georgia followed by a battle at Faulkner on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM.
