Blazers' Tennis Notches Two Victories Against Visiting Wolfpack

JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven men's and women's tennis teams found themselves on the winning side of the box score against conference foe Loyola (La.) for the second time this season. The men cruised to 9-0 victory, while the women held tough for a 7-2 win.

The women started the day with doubles, where the Blazers would take two of the three matches. Shelley Munn and Savannah Zachry teamed up to blank the Wolfpack's third doubles team 8-0. Natalia Krier and Indi Mire combined for the season sweep over Loyola with an 8-3 victory at second doubles.

However, the Wolfpack were able to get their first point of the match with a gritty 8-5 win over Belhaven's first doubles team. Ashley McLendon and Katie Campbell were close to a victory in the first matchup, but fell just short against Loyola for the second time this year.

Talented sophomore Meghan de Baroncelli got the second and last point for the Wolfpack with a straight-set victory over McLendon. The rest of the Blazers provided straight-set victories, including a grudge match at two singles. Mire had lost to Kanda Borgononi in two sets early in the season, but responded with a 6-2, 6-2 win over the Loyola freshman this time around.

On the men's side, Belhaven provided dominating results over the Wolfpack with a 9-0 win. The Blazers had beaten Loyola 7-2 in the first matchup on the opening weekend in January.

The newly refurbished doubles lineup proved wonders for Belhaven as they were able to sweep across the board, including at the top spot. Loyola had taken the first doubles flight during the teams' first meeting.

Nikita Lisov also avenged a loss that Jefferson Nino had taken at first singles, with an 8-4 win over Tarun Surat. Nino moved down to second singles following that match and has only lost a handful of matches since then. Nino handled Jaron Belcher with ease at the second singles spot, 8-0.

Daniel Prado, David Mejia, Enrico Patriarca and Andres Yepez combined to only surrender three games the rest of the way as the Blazers improved to 11-3 on the season.
