JACKSON, Miss. – The Blazer men's tennis team kept their early-season undefeated streak alive by downing cross-town rival Tougaloo 9-0 on Saturday afternoon. Belhaven has only lost two individual matches in an impressive start to the season.
Belhaven swept the doubles matches to quickly put the Bulldogs in a 3-0 hole.
Nikita Lisov and
Enrico Patriarca paced the Blazers at first doubles with an 8-1 victory. The combination of
Jefferson Nino and Andrew Day followed suit at second doubles, winning that match 8-0. A defaulted third match gave the Blazers a doubles sweep.
The Blazers looked sharp in singles as well.
After dropping her first singles match as a collegian against Loyola, Nino put on a show at first singles. He defeated Josh Agpe 6-0, 6-2 to give the Blazers their first singles victory of the day.
Lisov, Patriarca, Day and
Jim Scott combined to pitch a shutout the rest of the way down the lineup. Lisov and Patriarca each won 6-0, 6-0 at second and third singles respectively. Day and Scott each blanked their opponents in eight-game pro-sets.
As with third doubles, the Bulldogs defaulted on the sixth singles slot due to lack of players.
