Blazers Sweep Tougaloo for Second Time

Box Score JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven volleyball team improved to 7-15 on the year on Tuesday evening with a sweep of the Tougaloo Bulldogs (2-10). The non-conference match went into the books with set scores of 25-20, 25-8, and 25-12.

"We gave them more than half of their points on errors in the first set, and that was unacceptable for us," Head Coach Justin Dee said. "We focused on what we needed to do, and we controlled the ball better for the rest of the game.

Brittany Ammons led the charge offensively for the visiting Blazers, picking up a game-high nine kills. Jackie Gunderson added eight of her own, while Brett Peveto and Molly Boyer chimed in seven apiece. Belhaven benefited from the return of setter Alyson Plyler, as she assisted on 24 of her team's 38 kills.

A pair of seniors led the Blazers on the defensive side, as Katherine Owen tallied 14 and Gabriella Zorzoli contributed a dozen more. Alexandria Thompson served as Tougaloo's defensive counterpart, tallying a team-high 12 digs. Thompson's four kills on the night were second on the team, behind only Briana Murphy's five.

Belhaven travels to Georgia this weekend, returning to Southern States Athletic Conference Action. Brewton-Parker hosts Belhaven on Friday at 7:00, while Coastal Georgia will be the Blazers' final road conference game on Saturday.

"We have a huge weekend ahead of us, and we need to win both games to accomplish our goal of qualifying for the conference tournament," Dee said. "Tonight, we were aggressive and created opportunities, so we'll have to use that to our advantage moving forward.
