Box Score JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven volleyball team dropped to 6-15 overall and 1-8 in Southern States Athletic Conference play on Saturday after falling to Bethel University (7-13, 4-4 SSAC) 3-1. With a close battle in the second set and a victory in the third, Belhaven fell by set scores of 14-25, 22-25, 27-25, and 12-25.
"There's a difference in losing and getting beat, and today we got beat," Head Coach
Justin Dee said. "Our team fought like crazy today, but Bethel did a great job of serving us out of our offense."
Taylor Lafavre led the offensive attack for the hosting Blazers with six kills, while
Gabriella Zorzoli tallied 13 assists in the loss. Defensively,
Katherine Owen led all players with 25 digs, more than a third of the team's total.
Bethel's Vera Popovic accumulated 16 kills, which held up as the best for either squad, while teammate Breahna Stewart contributed 25 assists. Cheyanne Kyle chimed in 23 digs for the Wildcats, second only to Belhaven's Owen.
"A couple of our girls would tell you they had a bad day, but overall, we played at our best today," Dee said. "I appreciated the level we played at throughout this game."
The Blazers will return to action on Tuesday, when they will travel across town to Tougaloo College. The non-conference match is set to begin at 7:00 pm.
