Blazers Suffer Setback at Coastal Georgia

Box Score BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Fresh off consecutive sweeps of Tougaloo and Brewton-Parker, the Belhaven volleyball team (8-16, 2-9 SSAC) was on the other side on Saturday afternoon, falling in straight sets to the College of Coastal Georgia. Final sets came by scores of 16-25, 19-25, and 13-25, as the Mariners (16-9, 7-3 SSAC) won their fourth straight to remain unbeaten on their home floor.

"Coastal Georgia is such a quick team that we had to play perfect to give ourselves a chance, and we didn't play perfect today," Head Coach Justin Dee said. "I'm proud of our fight, but I want us to be a little more aggressive."

Brittany Ammons led the visiting Blazers in kills with seven, while Alyson Plyler tallied a team-high 21 assists on the afternoon. Cayley Meiners posted 29 assists for a game-high, while teammate Kara Neisen paced Coastal Georgia with 11 kills. Rachel Amundson and Holley Hammer followed with eight apiece.

"They overwhelmed our blockers and swung with full force," Dee said. "They hit whatever they wanted, so the difference was all along the offensive front."

Defensively for Belhaven, Gabriella Zorzoli's ten digs were good enough for best on the squad, while fellow senior Katherine Owen contributed seven of her own. Amundson ended the day as the top Mariner defender with a dozen digs, while Hammer contributed eight more.

The Blazers will return home on Tuesday to host Loyola University, who defeated Belhaven 3-1 in their last meeting on October 1. The Southern States Athletic Conference match is set to begin at 7:00 at Rugg Arena.
