Mobile, AL- The Belhaven softball team dropped two Southern States Athletic Conference games against the University of Mobile on Friday night. The Blazers fell in game one 5-2 and lost game two 3-1. Belhaven now holds an overall record of 22-19 and slipped to 8-11 in SSAC.
Game One
The Blazers got things started early in game one picking up four hits while managing two runs. Back to back hits, including a double from
Courtney Fairley, put the Blazers on top 1-0. Annalee Car then knocked a single to center allowing Fairley to tack on another Blazer run. In the bottom of the second inning, Mobile countered with a run on a groundout sending Lozada to the plate cutting the deficit to one 2-1.
Brittany Dundson hit a single for the Rams in the bottom of the fifth inning to even the score up at 2-2. The sixth inning would prove to be the inning that gave the Rams the win as they put up three runs with two coming off Blazers errors and an Ally Scott hit a single to left. The Blazers couldn't muster any runs despite two hits in the top of the seventh inning, as Mobile went on to take game one 5-2.
Fairley led the Blazers in hits with three along with one RBI and one run scored.
Taylor Bryan and Cee Austin both contributed two hits apiece while
Annalee Carr had one hit and one RBI.
Jessica Paris started in the circle and took the loss allowing five runs and six hits.
Ally Scott paved the way for the Rams with three hits, two runs scored and one RBI. Kamaron Strickland received the win pitching all seven innings giving up ten hits but only two runs.
Game Two
Mobile jumped out on the Blazers in the bottom of the first inning in game two when Brittany Dundson started off the contest with a solo homerun to right field. The Rams next runs came from a fielding error by the Blazers then a walk rounded in the next run putting Mobile up 3-1.
The 3-0 score held up until the top of the sixth inning when the Blazers got on the board with their first run of the game. Pitcher
Jessica Paris hit a single to bring the Blazers within two, but it wouldn't quite be enough as the Rams held on through the top of the seventh inning not allowing the Blazers any runs to stay in contention.
Five different Blazers all had one hit apiece; Fairley, Austin, Paris, Randle, and Adams.
Jessica Paris managed a RBI while
Courtney Fairley plated one during the game.
Megan Timbs took the loss for the Blazers giving up three runs and two hits.
Brittany Dundson led the way for the Rams with a hit, RBI and one run scored. Jessica Rogers contributed a hit while scoring one run. Alli Hall pitched all innings only giving up one run and five hits.
Belhaven will look to get back on track Saturday when they take on Spring Hill College in a double header at 12:00 PM.
