Jackson, Miss- The Belhaven softball team opened the Gulf Shores invitational tournament Friday afternoon winning their first game against Martin Methodist 4-0, while falling to Houston-Victoria 4-1 later in the evening. The Blazers, ranked 6th in the NAIA Preseason Top 25 Poll, move their record to 11-5 after today's contests.
Game One
Belhaven opened the contest in the top of the fourth inning scoring two runs.

Katie Sanders and ran home on a single to right field hit by
Taylor Bryan.
Jordan Adams singled in
Courtney Fairley to add another run for Belhaven bringing the score to 2-0 in favor of the Blazers.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Blazers remained hot and scored two more runs. In fact,
Annalee Carr hit her second homerun of the season allowing
Lizzy Hess who was at first base to run home giving a 4-0 advantage to Belhaven. The fifth proved to be the winning frame as Martin Methodist failed to score in the last two innings.
Belhaven (11-4, 2-0 SSAC) was led by
Annalee Carr who had a homerun, two RBI, three hits and a run scored.
Taylor Bryan and
Jordan Adams followed with a pair of hits each and a RBI.
Shelby Watson started in the circle for the Blazers, pitching seven innings allowing one hit and one walk. The victory for Watson runs her record to 3-2 on the season.
Megan McKean carried the Red hawks (9-6) with one hit. Chrissy Worth was charged with the loss surrendering two runs on five hits in 4.0 innings of work in the circle.
Game Two
In the top of the third inning of game two, Houston-Victoria's offense managed to load-up the bases and tally a run off Belhaven pitcher
Bayleigh Babin who walked in a run.
Houston-Victoria took the momentum by scoring three more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Porsha Ramos grounded out to first base allowing Kristina Droz to score the second run of the game for the Jaguars. Brittany Arredondo wrapped a two run single to left field giving time to Bree'Neka O'Bryant and Kori Kocian to run home, bringing the score to 4-0 in favor of Houston-Victoria.
Belhaven answered in the bottom of the fourth as
CeCee Austin homered to left center cutting the deficit to 4-1, but it would not be enough as Houston-Victoria captured the victory.
Belhaven (11-5, 2-0 SSAC) pounded out five hits in the contest with
Joyce Smith leading in the hit category with a pair of hits, while
CeCee Austin drove in her team leading 14th RBI of the season.
Bayleigh Babin pitched all seven innings for the Blazers, allowing four runs on nine hits. She was tagged with the loss dropping her record to 5-2 on the season.
Houston-Victoria (11-2) was led by their shortstop Brittany Arredondo who had three hits, two RBI and a run. Also, Kristina Droz, Kori Kocian, and Bre'Neka O'Bryant each scored a run for the Jaguars. Emily Bergstrom pitched four innings for Houston-Victoria and recorded the win in the circle giving up one run on four hits.
Belhaven will be back in action Saturday, to close the Gulf Shores Invitational taking on Bryan College at 9:00am, Madonna University at 5:00PM, and Campbellsville University at 7:00PM. All games will be held in Gulf Shores, AL.
