BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss.-The Belhaven softball team snapped a four game losing streak on Monday afternoon, taking both games of a doubleheader at Blue Mountain College. The Blazers, ranked 6th in the NAIA Preseason Top 25 Poll, won game one 5-2 followed by a 2-0 shutout victory in game two.
Game One
In game one, Belhaven took the lead in the top of third scoring three times, beginning with a bases loaded walk that was issued to first baseman
CeCee Austin. Right fielder
Joyce Smith was forced in from third on the play to make it a 1-0 game. Shortstop
Courtney Fairley sent home the next two runs on a double to left field that plated center fielder
Lizzy Hess and third baseman
Annalee Carr.
The Blazers maintained a 3-0 edge until the sixth when the Toppers battled back with two runs of their own. With runners on first and second, Brooke Jones singled to right field and on a fielder error by Smith in right, Hilary Parrish and Whitney Hardwick scored to make it a 3-2 game. Belhaven bounced right back in the top of the seventh when Bryan reestablished the three run lead with a two run single bumping the score to 5-2. Fairley and Austin scored on the Bryan base hit. Samantha Massoth and the Blazer defense kept Blue Mountain off the board in the bottom of the seventh to lock down the win.
Belhaven (15-10) was led by shortstop

Jessica Paris pitched 5.2 innings and allowed just two runs on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
Samantha Massoth tossed 1.1 innings and earned her first save of the season.
Blue Mountain was led by designated player Whitney Hardwick with two hits and a run scored. Second baseman Meggin Nelson, third baseman Haylei Plummer, and shortstop Brooke Jones each had one hit. Brooke Denton gave five runs in seven innings on seven hits with five walks and one strikeout.
Game Two
Belhaven produced just enough offense in game two of the day to complete the sweep. Second baseman
Jordan Adams doubled in Fairley in the fourth and Fairley hit her first home run of the season in the sixth to account for all the scoring. Fairley ended game two with a pair of hits in three plate appearances. In addition, she had one run batted in and two runs scored. Adams was a perfect 3 for 3 with an RBI followed by Bryan who had the only other hit for Belhaven in game two. Pitcher
Bayleigh Babin ran her record to 6-5 in the circle thanks to a complete game performance that featured five strikeouts. Babin only gave up three hits and one walk.
The Toppers had one hit each from second baseman Meggin Nelson, third baseman Haylei Plummer, and left fielder Hilary Parrish. Halley Beckham was charged with the complete game loss, allowing two runs on seven hits.
Belhaven will be back in action on Wednesday in a Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader at Faulkner University beginning at 2:00 PM.
