JACKSON, Miss- The Belhaven softball team opened up day one of their Belhaven Bash Tournament with two wins. The Blazers defeated Benedictine University-Springfield in game one 11-3 and in game two earned a victory over Blue Mountain College 8-2. The two victories gave the Blazers their third and fourth wins of the season giving them an overall record of 4-3.
Game One
The Blazers got on track early in the contest scoring their first three runs in the bottom of the 1st inning.
Joyce Smith got the Blazers on board 1-0 on an error from Bulldogs 1st baseman Stephanie Dwyer.
Lizzy Hess then posted the second run coming in on a Courtney Fairly single up the middle.
Annalee Carr came for the Blazers last run of the inning, scoring off a wild pitch by Bulldogs pitcher Kayla McDonald.
Benedictine answered in the top of the second with a run by Cookus on a SAC fly from Logan Taylor. In the top of the third, the Bulldogs followed up with two more runs from a Brittany Parks homerun allowing Michelle Alexander to score evening the game at 3-3. The Blazers responded with four runs in the bottom of the third inning as
Katie Sanders got the offense going chasing home
Courtney Fairley on a double.
Shelby Watson then stepped up to the plate and hit a two run homerun making it 6-3. The Blazers closed out the inning with another run from
Jordan Adams as
Jessica Paris singled up the middle to plate Adams on the play.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Blazers rallied in four more runs.
Taylor Bryan scored a run from an
Emily Tucker single.
CeCee Austin hit a three run homerun, her second of the season, closing the game at 11-3 in favor of Belhaven.

CeCee Austin and Courtney Fairly led the Blazers in hits with two apiece. Austin posted 3 RBIs while Fairly gained one RBI.
Shelby Watson followed Austin in RBIs with two and started in the circle for the Blazers pitching all six innings giving up only five hits with three runs. Watson now holds a win loss record of 2-1.
Brittany Parks led the Bulldogs in hits managing two of Benedictine University's five hits. Parks also tabbed two RBIs in the contest while Monroe turned in one RBI for the Bulldogs. Kayla McDonald started in the circle for the Bulldogs allowing nine hits and seven runs. Relief pitcher Cassie Osterholt pitched 1.1 innings giving up four runs and three hits, but McDonald received the loss in the contest.
Game Two
The Blazers took game one's momentum into their second contest against Blue Mountain College. The Blazers struck in the bottom of the second inning with two runs when
Shelby Watson scored on a wild pitch by pitcher Halley Beckham.
Joyce Smith gave the Blazers a 2-0 advantage hitting a single up the middle sending in
Taylor Bryan for the run.
Blue Mountain got on the board with a run in the top of the third from a single by designated player Whitney Hardwick , chasing in Nicholson for the run. Belhaven responded with four runs in the bottom of the third to take control of the game.
Annalee Carr singled to right field brining in
Lizzy Hess after she had stolen two bases.
Emily Tucker scored with the bases loaded after
Katie Sanders was walked making the score 4-1.
Shelby Watson then singled to center bringing
CeCee Austin across the plate for a run.
Chelsea Randle then hit a sacrifice fly to allow Courtney Fairly to score, closing out the inning with a score of 6-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Blazers scored what would be their last two runs of the contest. Ashley Hitt got a triple down the right field line brining in
Jessica Paris in for the run. Hitt then scored from a
CeCee Austin single to left center. Blue Mountain got a run in the top of the seventh inning but it wouldn't be enough to close the gap as the Blazers posted the 8-2 victory.
CeCee Austin got four of the eleven Blazer hits with one RBI to lead the offense in game two.
Shelby Watson had two hits for the Blazers while five other Blazers managed one apiece; Smith, Carr, Hitt, Fairley and Sanders.
Bayleigh Babin started in the circle pitching five innings allowing four hits and one run.
Samantha Massoth and
Megan Timbs both saw an inning a piece in Friday's second contest, giving up three hits and one run between the two of them. Babin received the win boosting her a win-loss record to 2-1.
Hillary Parish led the Toppers in hits with two while Whitney Hardwick and Kimmy Nicholson notched a RBI apiece in the contest. Halley Beckham received the loss, pitching all six innings allowing eight runs off of eleven hits.
The Blazers will hold day two on the Belhaven Bash on Saturday when they take on Blue Mountain College again at 12:00 PM and William Penn University at 2:00 PM. All games will be held at McLeod Field.
