Box Score
TOUGALOO, Miss. – Junior guard Chris Cofield provided a clutch three point bucket with 4.1 seconds left to spare Saturday night at Tougaloo College, giving the Blazers a 71-69 victory on day two of the Tougaloo College Classic. The Blazers then held their breath as one final attempt to tie the game by the Buldogs Malcom Sanders went half way in and popped out as the buzzer sounded.

Belhaven (6-8) dug a hole early and looked sluggish out of the gate falling, behind 14-4 to start the first half. The Blazers struggled in the second half of Friday night's loss to Talladega College and there seemed to be some carry over into Saturday's showdown. However, Belhaven picked things up and began to get back in the game thanks to some impressive three point shooting by sophomore guard Jerrial Dawson. Dawson gave the Blazers a boost by knocking down three consecutive triples late in the half to spur the offense and build a 34-28 lead at the break.

Tougaloo (1-8), fresh off its first win of the season Friday night over Concordia College-Selma, didn't go down without a fight. The Bulldogs eventually regained the lead and then the two teams traded baskets down the stretch and all the way to the final buzzer.

With the ball and trailing 69-68, Belhaven senior guard Jordan Butts brought the ball into the front court where Head Coach John Aiken called a timeout with 12.1 seconds left to draw up one final play. The Blazers executed it to perfection and Cofield found himself open on the left wing for the open shot. Cofield, who finished the contest with eight points, calmly released a picture perfect shot that caught nothing but the net for the game winner.

Belhaven had two players in double figures led by Curt Hall with 17 points and seven rebounds. Hall also provided a spark with two dunks in the second half. Butts followed Hall with 16 points while junior Deon Bedford and Dawson added nine points each. Bedford matched Hall with seven rebounds of his own.

As a team, Belhaven went 25 of 55 from the field (45.5 percent) for the game, including 14 of 24 in the second half (58.3 percent). The Blazers drilled seven triples and were 14 of 23 from the free throw line (60.9 percent). Belhaven also controlled the glass with a slight 37-34 edge in rebounding.

Tougaloo was paced by Juan Gray with a game high 24 points and 10 rebounds leading to the double double. Malcolm Sanders chipped in 18 points and six rebounds followed by Denzel Hardy with 11 points. The Bulldogs connected on 34.8 percent of their shots from the field (23-66).

Belhaven will be back on the court again December 29th in an exhibition game at NCAA Division II Delta State University. The Blazers next home game will be on December 31st when they host Xavier University (LA) in Rugg Arena beginning at 2:00 PM.
