Badgers Prove Too Much for Blazers

Box Score
JACKSON, Miss.—The Belhaven volleyball squad succumbed to a flawless Spring Hill team in straight sets on Saturday afternoon. The Badgers were able to force the Blazers into mistakes the entire match while minimalizing their own, on the way to their 13th Southern States Athletic Conference win in a row.

Spring Hill jumped on Belhaven from the beginning of the match, as the Blazers made a few key errors in the first set that lengthened the lead for the Badgers.  There were a few moments in the set where it looked like Belhaven was poised to make a run to tie up the score, but the Badgers held strong.

The Badgers took the first set 25-21 behind strong play from Megan Haber, an outside hitter, who finished multiple points in the first to propel them to the early lead.

Belhaven regrouped well in the second set, matching with the Badgers point-for-point. Spring Hill was able to get a little bit of distance between them at 23-20, but the Blazers didn't back down.

With a boisterous crowd on their side, the Blazers rallied off three straight points to tie the set at 23 a piece.  Badgers' coach Dr. Peggy Martin called a timeout in an effort to prevent the momentum from swinging too far in Belhaven's favor.

The timeout was well timed for the Badgers and they were able to wrangle two long points away from Belhaven to take the 2-0 lead in the match.

A two set lead was too much for the Blazers to overcome and they ultimately fell to visiting Spring Hill 25-20 in the final set.

Taylor Williams led all Belhaven players with 14 kills on the day. Natalie Davis returned to the lineup and posted an impressive nine kills on eleven attempts. Erin Bradley contributed to the offensive effort for Belhaven with 31 assists.

On defense, Katherine Owen and Gabriella Zorzoli each had 15 digs.

Belhaven is back in action on Tuesday night against Tougaloo College and then again on Wednesday for Senior Night against Alcorn State.
