Blazers Overpower Brenau in SSAC Opener

Montgomery, AL-The Belhaven volleyball team opened the Southern States Athletic Conference schedule with a 3-0 win over Brenau University in game one of the SSAC crossover tournament. The final set scores of Friday's match were 25-16, 25-16, and 25-17. Belhaven's record improved to 9-2 overall and 1-0 in SSAC play.

Natalie Davis returned to the court on Friday and had a big impact on the outcome of the match by leading the Blazers with eight kills and an attack percentage of .273. Christina Atwood followed with seven kills and hit at a .350 clip. Taylor Williams and Leigh Anne Huddleston also finished the match with seven kills each. Erin Bradley continued to rack up the assists dialing in 34 in Belhaven's win over Brenau. She also added seven digs and had a block assist.

On defense, Katherine Owen paced the team by digging out 20 Brenau attack attempts. Atwood chipped in on defense as well picking up a pair of digs with a solo block and two block assists. Serita Ingram had a solid match as well for the Blazers tallying four kills while picking up a dig, solo block, and two block assists. As a team, Belhaven registered 38 kills, 47 digs and 10 blocks.

Belhaven will play two more matches in the SSAC crossover tournament Saturday as they take on Emmanuel College at 12:00 PM and then battle Southern Wesleyan University at 4:00 PM. All matches are being played at Faulkner University in Montgomery, AL.
