Blazers Split Doubleheader at Mobile Saturday Afternoon

Mobile, AL- The Belhaven softball team split a double header at Southern States Athletic Conference West Division rival University of Mobile Saturday afternoon. The Blazers won the first contest 4-0 and dropped the second game 2-1. The Blazers combined for fourteen hits on the day and scored five runs.

Game One
Belhaven put up one run in the top of the first on a Rebecca Rousseau homerun over the left field fence giving the Blazers an early 1-0 lead. The Blazers got another homerun in the top of the fourth off the bat of Annalee Carr increasing the Blazers lead 2-0. In the top of the seventh Lizzy Hess scored on a Mayless Rodriguez bobble counting as an error. CeCee Austin followed up with a single to right field plating Christina Jaques for the run. The Rams couldn't muster any runs in the bottom of the seventh leading to the Blazers win 4-0.

Annalee Carr, Rebecca Rousseau and Christina Jaques led the Blazers in hits with two apiece. Jaques has been one of the hitting leaders for three consecutive games. Sarah Burns pitched all seven innings for the Blazers allowing five hits without surrendering a run in the contest. Burns is now 26-5 on the season in total wins and losses.

Five different Ram players got hits in the contest. Victoria Buie pitched all seven innings giving up four runs and seven hits.

Game Two
The Rams struck early in the bottom of the first thanks to a Milagros Lozada sacrifice fly which brought in Mayless Rodriguez for the run. In the top of the third, the Blazers put up their first run in the contest. Rian O'Bannon hit a triple to deep right center plating Chelsea Randle for the run tying the score at 1-1. Hannah Beth Baker scored the winning run for the Rams coming in on Mayless Rodriguez's double to deep right center in the bottom of the seventh inning giving Mobile the 2-1 win.

The Blazers turned in 7 hits in the contest with CeCee Austin and Rebecca Rousseau leading the way with two apiece. Sarah Burns started in the circle for the Blazers allowing seven hits and two runs. The loss drops Burns season record to 26-6. Baker and McLeod led the Rams in hits with two apiece and Kamoron Strickland pitched all seven innings giving up one run on seven hits.

The Blazers are now 39-9 on the year and 11-7 in Southern States Athletic Conference play. The Blazers will now face William Carey University on Tuesday in a doubleheader at Freedom Ridge Park beginning at 3:00 PM. The Blazers are looking to redeem themselves after dropping two SSAC games to WCU on April 5, 2-1 and 7-0.
