Mobile, Ala- Belhaven softball team traveled to Mobile, AL to take on Spring Hill College Friday afternoon and came away with two Southern States Athletic Conference West Division victories. The Blazers defeated the Badgers in game one of the doubleheader 3-0 and in game two topped the Badgers by an identical 3-0 score. Belhaven combined for 15 hits and six total runs.
Game One
Things didn't get started for the Blazers until the top of the seventh inning when they scored all three of their runs.
Christina Jaques hit a big inside the park three run homerun to deep right center which was her eighth home run of season and accounted for all three runs. The homerun plated
Kayla Maldonado and
Chelsea Randle. The Badgers weren't able to put up any runs in the bottom of the seventh ending the contest with Belhaven in front.
Jaques led the Blazers in hits with three and
Sarah Burns pitched all seven innings turning in another complete game surrendering just one hit. Katelyn Hinson got the only hit of the game for the Badgers. Sam Brooks pitched all seven innings giving up seven hits and three runs dropping her season record to 7-18.
Game Two
In the top of the third inning, Belhaven jumped in front as pinch runner
Emily Tucker scored on Haley Brown's wild throw. The Blazers then rounded in another run on a
Rian O'Bannon sacrifice squeeze bunt allowing Jaques to score giving the Blazers a 2-0 advantage. The Blazers followed up with another run in the top of the fourth inning.
Kayla Maldonado hit a triple deep down the right field line plating
Rachel Wright for the score. The game would finish with a final of 3-0.
Jaques led the Blazers once more in hits with three of the team's eight total hits.
Sarah Burns pitched a complete game allowing five hits without giving up a run boosting her season record to 24-5. Kayla Moran led the Badgers in hits with two and Sam Brooks started in the circle giving up eight hits and three runs dropping her season record to 7-19.
The Blazers are now 38-8 and 10-6 in Southern States Athletic Conference play. The Blazers sit in third place in the SSAC West Division behind William Carey and Mobile. The Blazers will take on the University of Mobile on the road Saturday starting at 12:00 PM.
