Blazers Split Double Header in SSAC Matchup with Faulkner University

Jackson, MS- The Belhaven softball team split a pair of games with Faulkner University Friday afternoon in their first Southern States Athletic Conference meeting at Freedom Ridge Park. Belhaven defeated the Eagles in the first contest 4-0. The Eagles managed to take the second game by a score 10-5. The Blazers combined for 19 hits in both games and nine runs.

Game 1
The first run didn't come until the bottom of the fourth inning by Belhaven as Annalee Carr hit a solo homerun to make the score 1-0. In the fifth inning, the Blazers put up three more runs as Christina Jaques hit a triple bringing in pinch runner Emily Tucker. Annalee Tucker then hit a double bringing in Christina Jaques for the score giving the Blazers a 3-0 advantage. CeeCee Austin then stepped up and hit a double rallying in Annalee Carr making the score 4-0.

No more runs would be posted in the contest with the Blazers taking the first game 4-0. The Blazers posted seven hits with Christina Jacques and Annalee Carr leading the way with two apiece. Sarah Burns pitched all seven innings. Burns gave up five hits and no runs advancing her win loss record to 6-2. Faulkner University posted five hits with Munroe and Smith leading the way with two apiece. Emily Jimmerson pitched five innings giving up seven hits as Jimmerson suffered her first loss of the year making her record 1-1.

Game 2
Faulkner University put up two runs in the 2nd inning off a Tori Hollis hit a single to bring in Scottie Wilkes and Heather Smith producing a 2-0 lead for the Eagles. In the top of the third the Eagles' Heather Smith hit a single to bring in Erin Byrd for the run. The Eagles posted four more runs in the top of the fifth. Heather Smith hit a double to bring Munroe and Byrd in. Scottie Wilkes then hit a single to chase home Smith for the score. Hollis then hit an RBI for the pinch runner Tia Rogers for the run giving the Eagles a 7-0 advantage.

The Blazers got on the board scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth from a Rachel Wright a single to left field bringing in Annalee Carr for the run. Kayla Maldonado doubled to right field as Carr crossed home plate and then Katie Sanders grounded out to shortstop bringing in Rachel Wright for the run cutting the Eagles lead to four 7-3. In the top of the 7th inning, Kayla Hall hit a homerun to center field bringing in Wilkes and Smith giving the Eagles a seven run lead. In the bottom of the seventh the Blazers managed to post two runs. Annalee Carr singled to bring in Christina Jaques and Annalee Carr scored off Rousseau being walked with the bases loaded. The score was the last for the Blazers producing the final score of 10-5.

The Blazers posted 12 hits with six different players with two hits apiece. Rebecca Rousseau pitched five innings giving up seven hits and six runs suffering the loss in the circle dropping her win-loss record to 3-1. Faulkner posted 12 hits as well with Smith leading the way with four. Missy Duke pitched all seven innings giving up 12 hits and five runs gaining the win making record 1-1.

The Blazers are now 9-3 on the season and 1-1 in Southern States Athletic Conference play. Belhaven will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to NCAA Division II Delta State University for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 PM.
