Blazers Score Two More Victories at Millsaps Invitational

Jackson, MS-The Belhaven volleyball team stayed hot on day two of the Millsaps College Invitational picking up wins over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor 3-2 followed by a straight set victory against Howard Payne University. The Blazers have now won four straight matches after securing match decisions against LeTourneau University and Centenary University on Friday.

Belhaven (22-11) battled back from a one set deficit against Mary Hardin-Baylor taking the match 18-25, 25-18, 15-25, 25-21, and 15-5. Natalie Davis came up big with 16 kills and had an attack percentage of .325. Christina Atwood registered 15 kills with a solo block and seven block assists while Samantha O'Malley pounded 10 kills in the contest. Erin Bradley assisted on 47 of Belhaven's 49 kills and picked up seven digs in the match. Gabriella Zorzoli had 29 digs and Erinn Hampton stepped up with 26 digs against Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Belhaven then topped Howard Payne University 3-0 with final set scores of 25-10, 25-15, and 25-16. Davis and O'Malley led the way with 10 kills each and Bradley picked up 33 more assists. Zorzoli was outstanding on defense again with a team high 19 digs followed by Erinn Hampton with 15 digs. Serita Ingram had four solo blocks and three block assists. Atwood pounded eight kills and assisted on three blocks and has two solo blocks on the day.

Belhaven will be back in action on Tuesday as they head to Mobile, AL to battle Southern States Athletic Conference foe Spring Hill College at 7:00 PM.
