Blazers Bounce Back with Pair of Wins at Millsaps Invitational

Jackson, MS-The Belhaven volleyball team snapped a four match losing skid on Friday afternoon picking up two victories at the Millsaps College Invitational. The Blazers defeated LeTourneau University in straight sets 25-20, 25-13, and 25-14 in the first match. In match number two of the day, Belhaven topped Centenary College 3-1 with final set scores of 25-16, 25-23, 24-26, and 25-21. Belhaven also secured the programs first 20 win season since the 2007 campaign.

Belhaven (20-11) dominated LeTourneau from start to finish on Friday. Junior Natalie Davis pounded 14 kills which produced a .342 hitting percentage. She was also active on defense registering two solo blocks and three block assists. Senior Christina Atwood also had a strong match with nine kills in 14 attempts leading to a .643 hitting percentage. Atwood also came up with two solo blocks and three block assists. Junior Erin Bradley had 29 assists and a pair of aces while Gabriella Zorzoli led the team in digs with 11.

Belhaven came out strong in the second match against Centenary and secured the first two sets. Centenary stayed alive with a win in set three, but the Blazers regrouped to end the contest with a set four decision in their favor. Davis slammed 18 kills and had a hitting percentage of .371. Junior Samantha O'Malley also had double digit kills while collecting 15 digs. Atwood had eight more kills and picked up two more solo blocks and three block assists in the match. Bradley had 43 assists and was second on the team in digs with 18. Zorzoli had a team 26 digs against Centenary on Friday.

Belhaven will be back in action Saturday on day two of the Millsaps College Invitational when they meet up with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 10:00 AM followed by a showdown with Howard Payne University at 2:00 PM.
