JACKSON, Miss. - Tarryn Woodall put down a match-high 25 kills Tuesday night as Belhaven rallied past LaGrange, 3-1, at Rugg Arena.
After dropping the opener 23-25, the Blazers took the next three sets 25-17, 25-22 and 25-19 to move to 9-8 overall and 4-2 in Collegiate Conference of the South play.
Belhaven led 15-14 midway through the first set before LaGrange pulled ahead 23-18. The Blazers answered with four straight points, including two Woodall kills and a
Kayla Robinson ace, but the Panthers held on to take the set.
The response came quickly. With the second set tied at 3-3, Belhaven scored five consecutive points behind three
Cami Davis kills and an
Angel Edwards service ace. The Blazers never trailed again in the set, holding LaGrange to a .000 hitting percentage to even the match.
The third set was the tightest of the night. LaGrange erased a 21-15 deficit and drew level at 22-22, but
Megan LaCour delivered back-to-back kills before Woodall closed the set with an ace. In the fourth, Belhaven turned a 6-4 deficit into a 9-6 lead on a five-point run. Woodall supplied eight kills in the final set, and
Laila Gauthier finished the match with a kill.
Woodall hit .392 on 51 swings and added seven digs and two aces. LaCour finished with 12 kills on a .355 hitting percentage, while Davis had 11 kills on 17 attacks, hit .588 and assisted on five blocks. Edwards handed out 24 assists,
Kylie Lindsey added 18, and Robinson led the back row with 14 digs.
Belhaven hit .331 for the match, committing just 12 attack errors against LaGrange's 26. The Blazers also held an 8-1 advantage in team blocks and hit .484 in the deciding set. Alex Krabs led LaGrange with 18 kills.
Belhaven returns to action Saturday at Huntingdon, with a second match against Bob Jones later that day.
