Jackson, MS-The Belhaven volleyball team lost its final home match of the season Tuesday suffering a 3-1 setback to cross town rival Millsaps College on "Dig Pink Night" in Rugg Arena. The final set scores were 25-23, 20-25, 20-25, and 13-25.
Belhaven (18-11) came out strong in the first set and held a 1-0 edge heading into set two. Millsaps (16-11) then rallied to take sets two and three by five points and then controlled the fourth and final set en route to the victory.
Taylor Williams had 13 kills on the night for Belhaven followed by
Samantha O'Malley with 10 kills.
Christina Atwood slammed nine kills and added three more block assists to her season totals Tuesday. Williams picked up 31 digs and
Gabriella Zorzoli contributed 22 digs in a match that featured numerous long rallies.
Erin Bradley had a match high 36 assists and
Serita Ingram was credited with two solo blocks and three block assists.
Millsaps was paced by Raven Scott with a match high 16 kills while Kasey Laird and Caroline May each hit double digits in kills with 11 and 10 respectively. Maggie Tumminello posted 25 digs and was closely followed by Laird who added 24. Taylor Zeigler ended the match with 26 assists and 14 digs.
Belhaven will try and get back on track this weekend when they play in the Millsaps College Invitational beginning on Friday. The Blazers will battle LeTourneau University at 1:30 PM and then take on Centenary College at 3:30 PM.
