Mobile, AL-The Belhaven men's basketball team lost at Spring Hill College 77-62 Saturday afternoon in a Southern States Athletic Conference contest. The Blazers got off to a slow start and could never recover as the Badgers led from start to finish.

Belhaven (13-10, 3-3 SSAC) was led by Rob Wallace who had a game high 19 points on 7 of 19 shooting from the field. Wallace had a hard time finding his touch from three point land connecting on just 3 of his 10 triples. Brittion Smith followed Wallace with 17 points with nine of them coming at the free throw line. Nathaniel Roche' landed in double figures, but was limited to just 11 points on Saturday after scoring 36 points on Monday and 27 on Thursday in wins over Dillard and Faulkner respectively. Spring Hill was able to limit Roche' to two rebounds on Saturday. Roche' had been dominating the boards over the last few games. Bobby Grier paced the Blazers in assists with three while coming up with six rebounds and a steal. Grier ended the afternoon with four points from his point guard position.

As a team in the last two games, Belhaven hit over 50 percent of their field goals, but Saturday they were held to a 34.9 percent shooting clip from the field (22-63). A big key in the game was three point shooting where the Blazers were successful on just 16.7 percent of their attempts (3-18). Belhaven converted 53.6 percent of their free throws in the contest (15-28). Belhaven was outrebounded 42-40, scored 38 of their points in the paint, and had eight points off of 16 Badger turnovers.

Spring Hill (7-10, 2-3 SSAC) had a balanced offensive attack with four different players landing in double figures. Nick Brown led the way with 18 points and was 8 of 11 from the field. Charles Gordon followed with 16 points, Steve Edwards chipped in with 14 points, and Tyler Schwab added 11 points. Gordon had six assists and Schwab dished out five assists to go along with their point production. The Badgers recorded 19 total assists in the game compared to only seven assists for the Blazers. Sylvester Twiggs only had four points, but dominated the glass with a game high 12 rebounds.

Spring Hill scored the first basket of the game on a bucket by Nick Brown who stole the ball from Smith and took it to the rim for the score in the first 10 seconds of play. Over the next few possessions, the teams would trade baskets and Wallace brought Belhaven to within one point at 8-7 on a triple with 16:50 remaining in the first half. However, it would prove to be the closest that the Blazers would get the rest of the game. Spring Hill gained their first double digit lead at 18-8 with 11:39 left in the first half and maintained an 11 point edge at the end of the opening period.

With 15:24 remaining in the game and down 45-33, the Blazers made a final push to get back into the contest. Wallace hit a jumper to begin a 10-1 run that cut the deficit to 46-43 with 13:33 after he drilled a three to cap the run. A few second later, Schwab hit the shot of the game for Spring Hill as he answered Wallace's three pointer with one of his own to stop the Blazer comeback. The Badgers then had their lead back to 11 points again at 56-45 with 11:10 to go and from there went on to close out the contest.

Belhaven will be back in action on Wednesday night as they head to New Orleans, LA to take on Xavier University in a non-conference contest beginning at 7:30 PM. The Blazers got the best of Xavier in the first meeting of the season 66-55 on January 8th in Rugg Arena.
