Jackson, MS- The Belhaven Volleyball team opened up the Millsap's Invitational 1-1 defeating Martin Methodist College in the first match and losing a tough one to NCAA Division 1 Centenary College Friday night. Belhaven beat Martin Methodist in five sets with the final scores of 24-26, 19-25, 25-23, 26-24, and 15-13. Centenary College than upended the Blazers in four sets with the final scores of 25-10, 26-28, 10-25, and 20-25.

A jam-packed crowd came to support the Blazers Friday night as they took on both schools. Christina Jaques led the Blazers against Martin Methodist with 16 kills and four aces. Leigh Anne Huddleston and Christina Atwood both clocked in with 10 kills. Taylor Williams had 35 assists while Gabriella Zorzoli turned in 19 digs followed by Katherine Owen with 10. As a team, the Blazers had seven block assists and a 91.8 serving percentage.

Fatigue got the best of the Blazers in the second match to Centenary College. The Blazers fought hard but weren't able to get into the flow of their offense due to Centenary College's extremely tall front line. Gabriella Zoroli led the team in digs with 12 while Erinn Hampton led in kills with 11 and she also tallied three aces. Christina Jaques came up big with seven blocks and as a team the Blazers had five aces and only four serving errors.

On the season the Blazers are now 4-1 and will continue play on Saturday against Schreiner University at 12:00 p.m and 2:00 p.m against LeTourneau University at the Millsap's Invitational.
