Blazers Split Pair of Matches in Tri-Match Play

Jackson, MS- The Belhaven volleyball team hosted their first Tri-match of the season taking on Faulkner University and Mississippi College Saturday afternoon. The Blazers split the games losing to Faulkner University in their first match while defeating Mississippi College in the second match. The loss to Faulkner University was the Blazers first conference loss on the season falling in three sets with the final scores of 21-25, 22-25, and 26-28. The Blazers had better luck in the second match defeating the Choctaws in four sets with the final scores of 25-13, 20-25, 25-19, and 25-15.

The Blazers were led against Faulkner University by Taylor Williams who had five kills and three block assists. Christina Atwood and Christina Jaques both tallied five kills and two block assists each in the match. Erinn Hampton recorded five kills as well for the Blazers. Erin Bradley turned in 10 digs against the Eagles followed by Gabriella Zorzoli with nine. As a team the Blazers clocked in 28 kills and 31 digs.

The tables turned in the second match against Mississippi College as the Blazers were led by Atwood as she managed to drive home 11 kills and had five block assists. Atwood is the Blazers leader in kills with 118 on the season. Williams also had 10 kills while came up with in four digs. Jaques who is the Blazers leader in aces on the season with 20, served up two aces and four block assists. Bradley managed to get 30 assist as she is the Blazers leader on the season in assists with 177. The Blazers as a team turned in 39 kills, 36 digs, 18 block assists and had a serving percentage of 88.5. As a team on the season the Blazers are up to 514 kills, 578 digs, 163 block assists and boast a serving percentage of 89.7.

The Blazers are back in action on Tuesday at Rugg Arena as they take on Loyola University in their second SSAC conference match starting at 7:00p.m.
