New Orleans, LA-The Belhaven men's and women's tennis teams were in action on Friday in the 2010 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tennis Tournament at the University of New Orleans Tennis Center.
The #6 seed Blazer women's tennis team lost to the #2 seed University of Mobile 5-0 in the first round. The Belhaven University #4 seed men's tennis team defeated the #5 seed Spring Hill College 5-2 in the first round but fell short to #1 seed Xavier University in the semifinals 5-1.
In the opening round, the Rams swept Belhaven in the all the women's single matches of the opening round. On the doubles side, the men won 1 of 3 as
Trey Woods and Elliot Clark out played Spring Hill's Jake Lyons and Johnny Nagmvilay 8-2. The men defeated their opponents 4-0 in all the singles matches.
In the semifinals, the men did not play any of their doubles matches and Xavier swept the Blazers in their singles matches except for the one that
Josh Sturgis won by default.
After Friday's matches, the women's tennis team ends their season with an overall record of 7-14 and the men's tennis team concludes their season with a record of 7-12 in the 2010 season. The complete GCAC Tournament results can be viewed by clicking
