Blazers Grab Road Win at Pensacola Christian

Pensacola, FL-The Belhaven men's basketball team hit the road on Tuesday night and rolled to an 88-71 win at Pensacola Christian College. It was the first game in 10 days for the Blazers who last played on November 30th in a 69-68 loss at Emmanuel College.

Belhaven (4-3) was led by Daryl Arnold who had a game high 19 points followed by Rob Wallace who posted 17 points in the victory. Wallace has had an outstanding start to the season as he leads the Blazers in scoring at 18.3 points per game. Belhaven had two other players reach double figures in the scoring with Nathaniel Roch'e contributing his fourth double double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Roch'e is averaging 14.9 points and 10.3 so far this year. Britton Smith chipped in 10 points and five steals in the Blazer win.

As a team, Belhaven hit 48.3 percent of their field goals (29-60), made good on 47.1 percent of their triples (8-17), and were solid at the free throw line knocking down 78.6 of their opportunities at the stripe. Pensacola Christian held the edge on the boards outrebounding Belhaven 45-40 on the night. The Blazers were able to force 25 turnovers from the Eagles and committed 20 miscues of their own.

Pensacola Christian also had four players in double figures with Mike Goetsch and Ryan Scott leading the way with 16 points apiece. Jon Andrews tossed in 12 points and Tyler Scott notched 11 points in the game for the Eagles. Ryan Scott also had a team high eight rebounds in addition to his 16 points. Tyler Scott also grabbed seven rebounds in the contest.

The Eagles made 37.9 percent of their shots from the field (25-66), hit 36.4 percent of their triples (4-11), and 68 percent of their free throws (17-25).

Belhaven never trailed in Tuesday night's game and set the tone early with a 13-0 run to begin the contest. Arnold got the Blazers on the board with a layup 14 seconds into the first half and a pair of free throws by Britton Smith capped the 13-0 spurt. Belhaven's largest lead of the night was 30 points at 84-54 with just over five minutes to play after the Blazers took a 42-19 advantage at halftime. Pensacola Christian closed the game with a 17-4 cutting the deficit to 17 points as time ran out.

Belhaven will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Tougaloo College for their second meeting of the season against the cross town rival Bulldogs. Tougaloo recorded a 74-58 win against the Blazers on November 13th in the Coaches' versus Cancer Classic at Rugg Arena. Saturday's tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
