Jackson, Miss- The Belhaven women's volleyball team took on Spring Hill College Saturday afternoon in Rugg Arena where the Badgers defeated the Blazers in three sets with the final scores of 17-25, 21-25, and 25-27. The loss brings the Blazers season record to 9-16 and 0-8 in the SSAC.
Spring Hill College (25-4, SSAC 7-1) surged ahead in the first two sets defeating the Blazers 25-17 and 25-21. The Blazers then came alive in the third stretching the set to extra points, but came up short as the Badgers overpowered them in the end of the set 27-25. Spring Hill was led by Yitiing Cao with twenty kills, and five digs. As a team the Badgers combined for 46 kills, 37 digs and 7 aces.
Belhaven was led by
Christina Atwood with eleven kills and one block assist.
Leigh Anne Huddleston followed Atwood in kills with ten.
Taylor Williams rallied seven kills and five digs while
Gabriella Zorzoli led with a team high eleven digs.
Erin Bradley assisted on thirty six points while carrying in four aces on the afternoon. The Blazers as a team turned in 36 kills, 35 assists and 34 digs.
Belhaven did not qualify for the postseason and with Saturday's loss to Spring Hill the 2010 season came to a close.
