Jackson, MS- The Belhaven women's volleyball team traveled on Tuesday night to take on NCAA Division I Jackson State University and came up short against the Tigers losing in four sets with the final scores of 25-20, 25-14, 25-22 and 25-20. The loss drops the Blazers season record to 9-15 and 2-7 for road games.
Jackson State University (21-11, 4-1) stunned the Blazers in the first two sets taking a commanding 2-0 lead. The Blazers woke up in the third set beating the Tigers 25-22 but the Tigers then stopped the Blazers momentum wrapping up the match in the fourth set 25-20. Jackson State's attack was led by Chyna Coleman and Brittany Larkin. Coleman tallied thirteen kills and seven digs while Larkin rallied with twelve kills and four solo blocks. The Tigers as a team combined for 46 kills, 45 assists, 48 digs, and 21 blocks.
The Blazers were led by
Leigh Anne Huddleston and
Taylor Williams with ten kills each. Williams rounded in eleven digs, one block assist and a solo block.
Christina Jaques followed Williams and Huddleston with eight kills and four digs.
Gabriella Zorzoli led the team in digs with 15 while
Erin Bradley managed a team high 36 assists on the night. As a team, the Blazers came up with 41 kills, 40 assists, 52 digs and 8 team blocks.
The Blazers will be back in action on Saturday in their last home game as well as their last Southern States Athletic Conference match of the season. Belhaven will take on Spring Hill College at 12:00 p.m. in Rugg Arena.
