Jackson, MS- The Belhaven Volleyball team lost in SSAC conference play to the University of Mobile on Tuesday night in Rugg Arena. The Blazers were defeated by the Rams with final scores of 17-25, 20-25, 25-15, and 21-25. The Blazers fall to 0-3 in conference play and are now 8-9 on the season.
The Blazers went down two sets and then fought hard to win the third set. Unfortunately, they came up short in the fourth set from a late surge by the Rams.
Christina Atwood led the way for the Blazers on the night turning in 11 kills, five digs and three block assists. Following Atwood was
Christina Jaques with five kills, seven digs and four block assists.
Erin Bradley and
Erinn Hampton led the team in digs with nine each while Bradley clocked in 22 assists on the night. The Blazers as a team curved in 31 kills, 49 digs and 14 block assists.
Leading the way for the Rams was Kelly Sherling who turned in 13 kills, five digs, and added one solo and one block assists on the night. Shea McBee followed Sherling with eight kills, 15 assists and one dig. The Rams team highlights were 41 digs, 12 aces and 38 kills. The Rams are now 9-5 on the season and 3-1 in SSCA play.
The Blazers will be back in action in SSCA play on October 12 in New Orleans, LA as they take on Loyola University at 7:00 p.m.
