Lady Blazers Take Two Matches on Day One of Hendrix Fall Classic

Conway, AR-The Belhaven volleyball team opened up play in the Hendrix College Fall Classic on Friday afternoon with a pair of victories over Huntingdon College in match one and Central Baptist College in match two. The Lady Blazers defeated Huntingdon three games to one with final scores of 26-24, 22-25, 25-21, and 25-21. Belhaven swept Central Baptist three games to zero with final scores of 25-21, 25-18, and 25-21.
 
In the first match of the day against Huntingdon, Belhaven (6-3) was led by Christina Jaques with 14 kills followed by Christina Atwood who had 11 kills and Jessica Davis with 10 kills. Erin Bradley had another great match with 34 assists, 12 digs, and three aces. Jessica Akiona chipped in with 11 digs and Samantha O'Malley along with Taylor Williams contributed three aces each. Belhaven posted seven blocks as a team against Huntingdon.
 
The Lady Blazers were paced in match two versus Central Baptist by O'Malley who tallied a team high 13 kills. Jaques added nine kills and Atwood chipped in with six kills in the match. Bradley once again led Belhaven in assists, digs, and aces with 31, 13, and three respectively. Akiona was second on the team in digs in match two with eight. As a team, Belhaven came up with seven blocks against Central Baptist.
 
The Lady Blazers will be back in action on Saturday for another pair of matches in the Hendrix College Fall Classic. Belhaven will take on Williams Baptist College at noon and then will battle the host school Hendrix College at 4:00 PM.
