Mobile, AL-The Belhaven softball team lost both games of a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference double header Tuesday afternoon at the University of Mobile 4-2 and 10-2. The Lady Blazers are now 11-6 overall and 0-2 in the GCAC. The Lady Rams improve to 9-1 overall and are 2-0 in conference play to begin the season.
Game One
In game one Belhaven scored the first two runs of the game to take a 2-0 lead. The first tally came in the top of the second and one more in the top of the third.
Heather Pace and
Britanee Pace were credited with both runs batted in.
The Lady Rams scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the fourth and it would be all the runs they would need. Taylor Phillips had a three run double and Ally Scott hit a home run to account for the four scores. Mobile kept the Lady Blazers off the board for the rest of the game to secure the 4-2 victory.
Salina Cervantes took the loss working six innings allowing four runs on eight hits to fall to 4-3 on the season. Leslie Pickette tossed seven innings for Mobile giving up two runs on five hits to improve to 6-0.
Game Two
In game two the University of Mobile dominated from start to finish scoring the first three runs of the game to lead 3-0 after two innings. Belhaven scored for the first time in the top of the third but Mobile came back with a run of their own to lead 4-1 after three innings.
The Lady Blazers pulled to within two with a run in the top of the fourth but once again the Lady Rams had answer as they plated their fifth run of the game in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-2 advantage. Mobile then exploded for five runs in the fifth inning to win it 10-2 with the eight run rule in effect.
Ashley Mottola pitched four innings giving up 10 runs on seven hits. The Lady Blazers committed four errors in the game making only six of those runs earned. Nicole Sweat went the distance for Mobile limiting the Lady Blazers to two runs on seven hits.
Offensively, Belhaven was led by
Jessica Eggold and
Chelsea Randle who each had an RBI.
Mallory Meadows had two hits in three at bats for Belhaven. The Lady Blazers will return to action on Wednesday afternoon in another GCAC double header with Spring Hill beginning at Noon.
