Lady Blazers Take Two of Three on Day Two of Belhaven Bash

Jackson, MS-The Belhaven softball team wrapped up the Belhaven Bash Invitational tournament on Saturday afternoon winning tow out of their three games on the day. The Lady Blazers opened the day with an 8-0 win over Bethel College in game one. Belhaven then lost in the second game to Thomas University 6-4 before taking game three from Lambuth University 8-4. The Lady Blazers are now 25-11 on the season after winning four out of five games this weekend.
                                      
Game One versus Bethel College
 
Belhaven scored at least one run in every inning in the 8-0 victory over the Lady Wildcats. The Lady Blazers plated two runs in the first, one run in the second and third, and two runs in the fourth and the fifth innings to put the eight run rule into effect.
 
Tiffany Ansley had a big game at the plate collecting three hits in four at bats with 2 RBI's. Jessica Eggold and Mallory Meadows joined Ansley with 2 RBI's while Clarissa Williams and Chelsea Randle each added an RBI each. Williams also had a three hit game at the plate for the Lady Blazers.
 
Belhaven pitcher Salina Cervantes was dominant once again working all five innings for the shutout victory. The win improved her record to a very impressive 11-4 on the season.
 
Game Two versus Thomas University
 
Thomas University set the tone early in game two putting two runs on the board in the top of the first inning. Belhaven answered with a run in the bottom of the first when Britney Webb led off with a single, stole second base, and came home on a base hit by Heather Pace. The Lady Night Hawks then scored twice more in the top of the second to build a 4-1 lead over the Lady Blazers.
 
Belhaven cut the deficit to two with a run in the fourth inning but Thomas answered in the top of the fifth with two more runs to make the score 6-2 going to the bottom of the fifth. The Lady Blazers tried to mount a comeback getting three hits in the bottom of the fifth but could only muster one run. Webb launched her 6th long ball of the season with one out to account for the only run. Belhaven then scored once more in the seventh but Thomas held off the late rally to pick up the win.
 
Webb and Heather Pace each had three hits to lead the Lady Blazer offense. Pace had 2 RBI's with a Webb and Randle each being credited with an RBI. Ashley Mottola pitched one inning and suffered her sixth loss of the season to fall to 9-6 overall.
 
Game Three versus Lambuth University
 
Belhaven ended the day on a high note with their second win of the weekend against Lambuth University. After falling behind 1-0 with one inning in the books, the Lady Blazers struck for three runs in the second to take a 3-1 lead. Belhaven went on to add four runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to pull away for the win.
 
Heather Pace was the RBI leader with 2 while Kayla Maldonado, Williams, Britanee Pace, Mallory Meadows, and Eggold chipped in with an RBI each. Keresa Steichen and Ansley had two hits which was tops for the game. Mottola got the win in relief pitching the final four innings for her 10th win of the season. Mottola allowed only two runs on three hits.
 
For their efforts during the two days of the tournament, Meadows, Webb, Ansley, and Heather Pace were named to the All Tournament Team. Belhaven will return to action Friday when they travel to Lambuth University for a double header beginning at 2 PM.
