Lady Blazers Take Three of Four in Day Two of Belhaven Bash

Jackson, MS-The Belhaven softball team wrapped up day two of the Belhaven Bash on Saturday afternoon winning three out of four games to finish the tournament 4-1. The Lady Blazers overall record now stands at 7-2.
 
Game 1
Belhaven battled Central Methodist University in the first game of the day and came up just a bit short by a final of 7-5. The Lady Eagles jumped out to an early lead scoring a run in the top of the first and then two more in the third. Belhaven got on the board with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third frame to cut the Central Methodist lead to 3-2.
 
The Eagles broke the game open in the fifth putting four runs on the board to extend their lead to 7-2. The Lady Blazers battled back in the bottom of the seventh with three runs to make it close. Britney Webb slammed a three run homer over the left field fence, but Belhaven couldn't sustain the rally. Webb went 2 for 3 in the game with four RBI's to lead the Lady Blazer offense.
 
Game 2
 
Belhaven regrouped in their second game with another win over Lindenwood University 9-7. The Lady Blazers topped the Lady Lions on Friday by a final of 5-3. Belhaven struck for a pair of runs in the first and second innings and added one more in the top of the third to take a 5-0 lead going into the bottom of the inning. Lindenwood mounted a comeback with three runs in the third, but the Lady Blazers responded with two in the top of the fourth to expand their lead to 7-3.
 
The Lady Lions added a run in the bottom of the fourth and then tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to get right back into the contest. Neither team would score in the sixth but the Lady Blazers plated a pair of runs in the seventh to take the victory. Ashley Mottola picked up the win in relief pitching two scoreless innings for her third win of the year.
 
Game 3
 
The Lady Blazers really got the offense cranked up in the third game of the day cruising to a 12-1 win in five innings over Ashford University. Belhaven tallied one run in the second, four runs in the third and fourth and added three more in the firth inning.
 
Belhaven was led by Salina Cervantes who went 2 for 3 with two home runs and three RBI's. Britney Webb played another outstanding game smashing three hits in four at bats which included another home run and three RBI's. Mallory Meadows pitched all five innings giving up one run on only one hit. It was Meadows second win of the season in the center of the diamond.
 
Game 4
 
The final game of the day against Union University proved to be a slugfest as well with Belhaven holding on for an 8-7 win. The Lady Blazers scored two runs in each of the first four innings to take an 8-5 lead going into the fifth inning. Union made it interesting in the late innings get a run in the fifth and sixth frames to pull within a single score. However, Salina Cervantes would slam the door in the seventh to preserve the win and get the save.  
 
Britney Webb and Heather Pace went yard for the Lady Blazers and drove in 2 and 3 runs respectively. Cervantes also picked up a pair of RBI's on two hits.
 
Ashley Mottola got the start on the mound and pitched the first five innings surrendering all seven Union runs. However, Mottola battled to win her fourth game in five decisions this season.
 
The Lady Blazers will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to LSU-Alexandria for a 3 PM doubleheader.
