Jackson, MS-The Belhaven men's basketball team kept rolling on Saturday night as the Blazers dominated in all facets of the game with a 108-69 victory over Blue Mountain College in Rugg Arena. Belhaven never trailed in the game and outscored the Toppers in the second half 58-29 as they pulled away for the win.
The Blazers opened the night with a 9-0 run putting the Toppers in a deep hole with just three minutes gone by in the first half.
Larell Bailey got Belhaven (6-0) on the board with a jumper at the 19:19 mark and then
Bobby Grier capped the run with a layup with 17:23 showing on the first half clock. Blue Mountain's first points came on a pair of free throws by Brad Pressley and at that point Belhaven's lead was 9-2 with 17:06 to go until halftime.
The Toppers climbed to within four points at 18-14 with 13:24 to go in the opening half on a basket by Lakendrick McCullum, but Belhaven answered with a 12-4 run extending their advantage into double digits for the first time in the game. Howard drilled a jump shot at the outset of the run and
Krayleon Winston capped it with a layup at the 11:30 point of the first half making the score 30-18 in favor of the Blazers.
Belhaven enjoyed a 13 point lead at the mid way point of the first half thanks to a three point bucket by
Allen McClain, but it would be short lived as Blue Mountain (0-10) got back into the game with a 15-3 run of their own over the next five minutes pulling to within one of the Blazers at 36-35. Leading by one 38-37 with 4:13 to go before halftime, Belhaven engineered a 12-3 scoring run to close out the half with a 50-40 advantage. Winston made a layup to open the run and Bailey knocked down another jump shot with 55 seconds to go in the first half to give the Blazers their 50 points.
Belhaven proceeded to put the game away in the first seven minutes of the second half by outscoring the Toppers 21-13 in route to a 71-53 lead with just 12:47 left in the contest. Blue Mountain got back to within 14 points at 77-63 on a field goal by McCullum with just over eight minutes left, but that's the closest they would get the rest of the night. Belhaven went on to extend the lead to 25 points at 92-67 on an old fashion three point play by
Tensley Cowan with 5:12 on the second half clock.
The Toppers could only muster two more points the rest of the game with one coming on a free throw by MaCay Wilbanks and another shot at the free throw stripe by Andrew Harbor with 23 seconds to go in the contest. Meanwhile, the Blazers kept the heat on with 16 points in the final five minutes leading to the 108-69 win. Belhaven has scored at least 102 points in four of their first six games this season. The Blazers previous season high in points was on November 10th when they scored 107 points in a win over Wesley College.
Belhaven had four players in double figures once again led by
Larell Bailey who had a game high 20 points. Bailey made 50 percent of his shots from the field including four from behind the arc in 23 minutes of work.
Nathaniel Roche' followed Bailey with 14 points thanks to a 7 for 10 night from the field.
Krayleon Winston chipped in with 12 points and
Woodie Howard added 10 points off the bench for the Blazers. Belhaven got good offensive production from their bench players who combined to score 50 points. The Blazers also dominated the paint getting 54 of their 108 points down low.

Tensley Cowan, Roche', and Winston had five rebounds each to lead Belhaven on the boards.
Rob Wallace had a game high eight assists and as a team Belhaven players combined to dish out 31 assists. The Blazer defense came up with 16 steals and forced 30 Blue Mountain turnovers in the contest. Both teams grabbed 39 rebounds in Saturday's game.
Belhaven finished the night with a 57.8 shooting percentage from the field while making 34.6 percent of their three point attempts. The Blazers were 3 of 8 at the free throw line.
Blue Mountain was led by McCullum who tallied 16 points and a game high eight rebounds. The Toppers were held to a 37.3 percent shooting clip from the field and made only 25 percent of their 24 three point attempts. Blue Mountain converted 68.4 percent of their free throw opportunities.
Belhaven returns to action on Tuesday night as they host Union University (TN) in Rugg Arena. Union comes into the game ranked 11th in the NAIA Top 25 Preseason Poll. Tuesday night's tip-off is slated for 7:00 PM.
