Blazers Split Pair of Matches on Day Two of Faulkner Invitational

Montgomery, AL-The Belhaven volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday on day two of the Faulkner University Invitational losing to Shorter College 3-1 while defeating the host school Faulkner 3-0. The final scores in the Shorter match were 25-23, 16-25, 16-25, and 26-28. Against Faulkner, Belhaven won 25-18, 25-20, and 25-21 improving their overall record to 11-15.

In the Shorter match, Christina Jaques and Kourtney Clark led the Belhaven offense with 12 kills each followed by Taylor Williams with nine kills. Williams and Christina Atwood both had serving aces and Erin Bradley turned in 40 assists. On the defensive side of the net, Samantha O'Malley had 13 digs while Williams recorded 12 digs followed by Jessica Davis with 11 digs. Jaques, Clark, and Erinn Hampton had solo blocks in the match.

Against Faulkner, Atwood was the team leader in kills with 11 while Jaques and O'Malley both tallied eight kills apiece. Bradley once again led the Blazers in assists with 28 and also contributed a team high three serving aces. Davis had eight digs and Williams notched six digs to lead the Belhaven defense. Atwood had two solo blocks and an assist while Jaques chipped in with five blocking assists. 

The Blazers return to the court on Tuesday at Gulf Coast Athletic Conference rival Spring Hill College beginning at 3:00 PM.
