Blazers Lose a Pair of Tough Matches on Day One of Faulkner Invitational

Montgomery, AL-The Belhaven volleyball team lost a pair of hard fought matches on Friday in day one of the Faulkner University Invitational. The Blazers lost to Brenau University 3-1 in the first match if the day with final scores 25-21, 19-25, 25-27, and 22-25. In the second match, Belhaven lost 3-2 to Brewton-Parker College with final scores of 24-26, 25-22, 25-12, 23-25, and 11-15.
                                                           
Belhaven (10-14) was led in the Brenau match by Christina Jaques and Christina Atwood who each had 10 kills. Kourtney Clark and Samantha O'Malley chipped in with eight kills and seven kills respectively. Erin Bradley had 30 setting assists in the match for the Blazers. Jaques and Clark also had four serving aces to help the offensive attack. On the defensive side of the net Jessica Davis paced the Blazers with 10 digs followed by Talyor Williams with seven and Erin Bradley with five. Clark had two solo blocks and three block assists.
                                                            
Against Brewton-Parker, Clark led the offense with 18 kills while Atwood added 16 kills in the contest. Williams and Bradley each had two aces and Bradley tallied 45 setting assists in Friday's second match. Defensively, O'Malley led Belhaven with 22 digs while Davis and Williams added 21 and 11 respectively. Clark continued her outstanding afternoon with two more solo blocks and seven block assists against Brewton-Parker.
                                                   
Belhaven will be back in action on Saturday in day two of the Faulkner Invitational with a 10:00 AM match with Shorter College followed by a 4:00 PM match against the host school Faulkner University.
