Lady Blazers Put up a Tough Fight against Mobile

Box ScoreJackson, MS-The Belhaven volleyball team played hard Friday night against the University of Mobile, but the Lady Rams were up to the challenge as they defeated Belhaven in three games 10-25, 29-31, and 15-25. The Lady Blazers are now 9-22 on the season and 1-6 in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play. The Lady Rams are now 30-2 overall and remain unbeaten in conference play.
 
The Lady Blazers got off to a rough start as Mobile completely dominated game one and cruised to the win. However, in game two the Lady Blazers caught fire coming from behind and forcing the match to 31 points. The game went back and forth with each team having chances to put the game away. Unfortunately, the Lady prevailed 31-29, but for Belhaven it may have been one of their best games of the season. In game three Mobile took control of the match and pulled away with the victory in game three.
 
Belhaven was led on offense by Christina Atwood, Erinn Hampton and Jessica Davis who each had three kills. Kelsey Stack had 14 assists to go along with one ace. Davis also served up an ace in Friday's match. On defense, the Lady Blazers were paced by Mary Jeanne Kenyon and Jessica Akiona with five digs. Kenyon and Atwood each chipped in with a solo block while Melissa Skopal and Jessica Davis each recorded a block assist.
 
Belhaven is back in action on Saturday for the final time at home in 2008. The lady Blazers will meet up with the Lady Tigers of Jackson State. The match is slated to get underway at 3 PM.
