Campbellsville, KY-The Belhaven football team could not slow down the high powered attack of the Campbellsville Tigers losing Saturday afternoon 35-33. The Blazers overall record drops to 2-5 with the loss. The Blazer offense went toe to toe with Tigers the entire game, but a missed extra point and a failed two point conversion proved to be the difference in the contest.
The Blazers jumped out to 14-0 lead in the first half, but Campbellsville would grab some momentum at the end of the half scoring their first touchdown of the game with 11 seconds to go in the second quarter. The Blazers would eventually fall behind 28-21 but would score a touchdown to pull within one at 28-27. The extra point was then missed which would prove to be costly.
The Tigers would then answer with another touchdown at the 8:05 mark of the fourth quarter to build an eight point lead. With 2:14 to go in the game, Belhaven stuck again for another touchdown. However, the Blazers failed on the two-point conversion attempt.
Offensively, Belhaven was led by quarterback
Jerred Wallace who completed 33 passes for 342 yards and two touchdowns.
Shaun Ector was on the receiving end of 8 Wallace passes for 91 yards and both touchdown scores.
Ricardo Bolton carried the ball 14 times for 62 yards and one touchdown to lead the Blazer ground attack.
On the defensive side of the ball,
Eric Ortiz had an outstanding game with 12 total tackles and a quarterback sack. Ortiz now has 7.5 sacks on the season.
Reginald Lumpkin also reached double digits in tackles with ten against the Tigers including a quarterback sack.
Jordan Snipes came away with Belhaven's lone interception on the afternoon.
The Blazers return home to face Cumberland University in the annual Homecoming game at H.T. Newell Field next week. The kickoff is scheduled for 1:30.
