Jackson, MS - The Belhaven volleyball team opened up their 2008 campaign with a dominant victory over NCAA DI opponent Alcorn State University Friday in Rugg Arena. The Lady Blazers put the visiting Lady Braves out in three straight games; 25-20, 25-21, and 27-25.

The Blazers were in control and only trailed a few times throughout the match. The Lady Braves made their biggest stand in the third game, but the Green and Gold put any hope of a fourth game away with a 27-25 victory in the 3rd and final game.

Freshmen Erinn Hampton and Kourtney Clark led the Lady Blazers offensive attack with 7 kills, while Senior Kelsey Stack and Freshman Kristina Atwood had 4 and 2 aces, respectively. On the defensive side, Atwood recorded 2 solo blocks and 3 block assists, while Hampton chipped in with 2 solo blocks and 2 block assists.

The Lady Blazers will travel across town on Friday and Saturday to take part in the Millsaps College Invitational. On Friday they will take on Spring Hill at 3:00pm, which will be followed by Reinhardt at 5:00pm.
