Women's Tennis Signs Two for 2013-14 Season

Mary Lichlyter signs letter of intent.
JACKSON, Miss. – Belhaven men's and women's tennis coach Levi Patton is pleased to announce the signings of two more key players for the 2013-14 season. Mary Lichlyter from Alabaster, Alabama and Brittany Keeling from Muscle Shoals, Alabama will both be joining the Blazers in the fall with a chance to be instant impact players.

Lichlyter comes to Belhaven has a seasoned singles player at the USTA Junior and high school levels. She is a five time USTA Junior state champion in Alabama and finished third in USTA Junior Southern Championship twice.

A trail of other accolades follow Lichlyter with every tournament she enters, but one of her most impressive tennis moments is when she won a championship match in 2011 while playing with a broken arm.

Patton describes Lichlyter as a quick player who has a great baseline game. “She can play both aggressively or as a counter puncher and she will have a great opportunity to play into the lineup as a freshman this fall.”

Keeling is no slouch in the title department herself. A part of the Muscle Shoals High School tennis team for all four years of school, Keeling was a part of the squad that won a state championship in 2011. Her high school team has also won three sectional titles during her time there.

According to Patton, Keeling is a strong baseline player that will add to a Belhaven team that he hopes will have more depth going forward.

The Blazers have now signed four players to next years roster to replace four starters that will graduate following the season.
