Belhaven Names McMahon New Head Men’s Soccer Coach

JACKSON, Miss.-Belhaven University is pleased to announce that Brian McMahon has been hired as the new Head Coach of the Blazers men's soccer program. McMahon comes to Belhaven after spending the past 11 seasons as the head coach at Greenville College in Illinois.

During his tenure at Greenville, McMahon accumulated a 136-85-27 record (.603 winning percentage) making him the program's all-time leader in victories. In 2008, 2010, and 2011, McMahon led Greenville to the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships and berths into the NCAA Division III National Tournament. His 2008 team was the first of any sport at Greenville to compete in an NCAA National Championship Tournament. Under McMahon's direction, he has coached 18 NCCAA All-Americans, 92 SLIAC All-conference performers, 19 NCAA All-region, 2 NCAA Academic All-Americans, and nine professional development players. McMahon has also helped build a successful women's soccer program during his 11 year coaching stint at Greenville.

McMahon is no stranger to NAIA soccer having competed as a player at Indiana Wesleyan University for four seasons. While at Indiana Wesleyan, he was a part of two NAIA regional final four teams and also competed in two NCCAA National Tournaments. McMahon also helped IWU to two Mid-Central College Conference Championships.

“After a thorough national search, I am very glad to introduce Brian McMahon as the Head Men's Soccer Coach at Belhaven University,” says Scott Little, Vice President for Student Affairs and Athletics. “In many years of hiring, I can't recall a deeper, more qualified field of applicants for a position, and that speaks to the rich tradition and history of Belhaven Soccer over many, many years. Brian will build upon our soccer tradition and spiritual heritage, and he embraces our commitment to create an environment where our student-athletes can compete for championships and mature as men and women created in the image of God.  I'm excited to welcome Brian, his wife Jen, and their family to Belhaven.”

McMahon succeeds Steve DeCou, who recently accepted the Head Coaching position at Georgia Gwinnett College.

Belhaven University is a member of the NAIA, the Southern States Athletic Conference, and sponsors 13 intercollegiate sports.
