Jackson, MS-Head Coach
Hill Denson and the Belhaven baseball program would like to announce the signings of catchers Kyle Wheeler and Clay Bonds for the 2012 season.
Wheeler, a native of Loranger, LA, is transferring to Belhaven after spending two seasons at Southwest Mississippi Community College. Wheeler put up some impressive offensive numbers hitting over .340 with 10 home runs and 20 plus doubles in those two seasons. “Kyle is a great pick up for us,” says Denson. “He can really catch and throw and is a vocal leader behind the plate. He has some pop in his bat that is always a bonus from a catcher and we are really excited about what he adds to our club.”
Bonds, who hails from Pensacola, FL, spent three seasons as the starting catcher at the University of South Carolina-Beaufort prior to signing with Belhaven for the upcoming season. Bonds owns a career batting average of .291 with 14 doubles, three home runs, and 47 runs batted in. “Clay will add depth for us behind the plate,” says Denson. “He has a lot of experience as a catcher in the NAIA and in a very good conference. He has a lot of leadership qualities and will fit right in with our club.”
Belhaven University is a member of the NAIA, Southern States Athletic Conference and Mid-South Conference and sponsors 13 intercollegiate sports. Belhaven is an institution that focuses on preparing students academically and spiritually to serve Christ Jesus.
