Burns, Carr, and Jaques Earn NAIA All-American, and NFCA All-Region Honors

Kansas City, MO-Belhaven softball players Annalee Carr, Christina Jaques, and Sarah Burns earned NAIA All-American Honors when the awards were recently announced by the NAIA. Jaques and Burns made the NAIA All-American second team while Carr was tabbed as an Honorable Mention selection. The trio was also selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association East Region First Team for their accomplishments on the field this season.

Jaques, a senior shortstop from Orange, TX, led Belhaven at the plate this season with a .449 batting average and 96 total hits. Jaques racked up 14 doubles, paced the Blazers in triples with six, had nine home runs and 51 runs batted in. Jaques was 44 for 51 in stolen base attempts and swiped five bags in the NAIA National Tournament to lead all players in that category. She was tops in the tournament with 13 total hits helping lead Belhaven to a third place finish. Jaques was also a second team NAIA All-American in 2010.

Burns, a senior pitcher from Edmond, OK, is also making her second consecutive appearance on the NAIA All-American Second Team. Burns had another outstanding year in 2011 posting a record of 36-9 with a 1.32 earned run average. Burns worked 282 innings and struck out 285 while holding opposing hitters to a .197 batting average. Burns pitched every inning of every game in the NAIA National Tournament and went 6-2 against some of the best teams in the country. Burns led the national tournament in innings pitched with 56, was third in strikeouts with 55, and was tied for first in tournament wins with six.

Carr, a freshman third baseman from Alvin, TX, made a huge impact on the team in her first season as a Blazer. Carr hit at a .413 clip and was second on the team in total hits with 76. Carr led Belhaven in doubles (16), home runs (14), and RBI's (57). Carr also made some great plays at third base helping solidify the Belhaven defense. Carr made only 10 errors in 205 chances at the hot corner this season.

Belhaven recently wrapped up the 2011 season with a 50-12 overall record and a third place finish in the NAIA National Championships. It's the highest finish for any Belhaven team in any sport since the 1992 Men's Soccer team won the NAIA National Championship. The Blazers were also the 2011 Southern States Athletic Conference champions after going 4-0 in the SSAC tournament in April.
