Blazers Add Pair of Transfers for 2011 Season

Jackson, MS-Head Coach Hill Denson and the Belhaven baseball program are pleased to announce the signing of transfers Jared Miller and Anthony Doss for the 2011 season. Miller, a right handed pitcher, is a transfer from Mississippi State University and Doss who is an outfielder comes to Belhaven after spending two seasons at the University of Southern Mississippi.

Miller, a native of Sumrall, MS was the 2009 MS 3A Player of the Year, 1st team All- State, 2009 Max Prep All American, 2009 Dandy Dozen, and compiled a 24-0 pitching record in his high school career. Miller was red-shirted at MSU last spring and will have four years of eligibility remaining for Belhaven.

"We are very excited to have Jared join our club," says Assistant Coach Clay Smith. "He is a great guy and a good student. Jared is a very accomplished high school pitcher. Hopefully he can come in and continue his success with us. He is a big, strong guy, with some arm strength. If he can translate what he did in high school to our level, he will be very successful."

Doss, who played high school baseball at Northwest Rankin earned High School All-American, All State and All Region his senior season after hitting .382 with 13 HR and 42 RBI. In 2010 at Southern Miss, Doss hit .326 with three home runs and five doubles for the Golden Eagles.

"Anthony will be a great addition to our team," says Head Coach Hill Denson. "He is a very good hitter with a lot of power. We needed someone to step in to replace some of the homeruns we lost with Craig Dean and Timmy Foster graduating. Hopefully he will be one of those guys."

Belhaven University is a member of the NAIA, Southern States Athletic Conference, Mid-South Conference and sponsors 13 intercollegiate sports. Belhaven is an institution that focuses on preparing students academically and spiritually to serve Christ Jesus.
