Five Blazers Earn GCAC All-Conference Honors

Hattiesburg, MS-Five members of the Belhaven softball team earned Gulf Coast Athletic Conference All-Conference honors when the awards were announced by the league on Monday. Britney Webb, Sarah Burns, Lizzy Hess, Christina Jaques, and Tiffany Ansley were all recognized for their efforts in helping guide the Blazers to a 50-8 overall record and GCAC regular season championship.

Webb, a senior from Mobile, AL, was named GCAC All-Conference and Player of the Year in what has been a record breaking season. Webb broke the NAIA single season and career stolen base records eclipsing the previous single season mark of Heather Tang from William Woods University which was set in 1997. The previous record for most stolen bases in a career was held by Amanda Addie of Point Loma Nazarene University. Addie played at Point Loma Nazarene from 2005-2008. Webb is currently batting .455 with four home runs 11 triples, 15 doubles, has 53 RBI's, and is 77 for 86 in stolen base attempts this season. Her career stolen base total now stands at 210.

Burns, a junior from Edmund, OK, was named GCAC All-Conference and Pitcher of the year after having notched 26 wins against just four defeats this season. Her win total is fourth best in the NAIA. She has an ERA of 1.59 with 212 strikeouts in 186.2 innings pitched and her strikeout total is tenth best in the NAIA.

Jaques, a junior from Orange, TX, was selected to the GCAC All-Conference Team for her play in the field and at the plate. Jaques has had a big year for Belhaven leading the team in hitting with a .480 batting average including eight home runs, seven triples, nine doubles and 43 RBI's. Jaques is second on the team and in the NAIA in stolen bases with 56 steals in 65 attempts.

Ansley, a senior from Miami, FL, was named to the GCAC All-Conference Team after having helped solidify the Blazer offense with a batting average of .372 with eight home runs, a team high 16 doubles and 58 runs batted in. Ansley is 10th in the NAIA in total RBI's.

Hess, a freshman from Mobile, AL, was chosen as the GCAC Freshman of the Year. Hess has compiled a .348 batting average with 17 stolen bases and has 11 runs batted in.

Burns, Jaques, and Heather Pace were all named to the 2010 GCAC All-Tournament Team. The Blazers lost in the championship game to William Carey University and are awaiting word on an at large bid to the NAIA National Tournament in Decatur, AL May 20th through the 26th.
