Marion, AL-The Belhaven softball team, ranked 9th in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll, once again looked impressive defeating Judson College in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Judson. The Blazers won game one by a score of 4-0 and then followed that up with a 13-2 run rule victory over the Eagles in game two. Belhaven is now 31-3 overall and remain undefeated at 6-0 in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference.
Game One
Belhaven jumped on the board in the top of the first inning of game one and never looked back on their way to the win.
Britney Webb doubled to center field leading off the inning and then stole third base. After that, Webb scored on a passed ball.
The Blazers put two more runs on the board in the top of the fifth when
Lizzy Hess singled to center field and then stole second base. Webb tripled to right center to bring in Hess and Eggold brought home the second run of the inning on a double to center field plating Webb to make it a 3-0 Belhaven lead.
The Blazers tacked on their final run in the sixth inning to take a 4-0 victory as
Rian O'Bannon singled and scored on a
Rachel Wright triple. Wright had a great game and went two for three at the plate with one RBI followed by Webb who went two for four at the plate with one RBI as well.
The Blazers played solid defense in game one and did not have any errors.
Salina Cervantes pitched the entire game and earned her sixth win of the season allowing just one hit with striking out one to improve to 6-0. Nesha McGriff picks up the loss for the Eagles with four runs nine hits allowed.
Game Two
In game two, The Blazers came out on fire and racked up five runs with five hits in the first inning. Webb led the inning off with a single to center field, stole second, and advanced to third on a passed ball. Eggold flied out to left field which advanced Webb home to give the Blazers a 1-0 lead. Subsequently, Jaques singled and stole second base followed by
Tiffany Ansley who singled to center field and moved Jaques to third. Pace hit a double to right center allowing Ansley and Jaques to put two more runs on the board. Wright blasted a homer over the right center fence to score Pace giving the Blazers a 5-0 lead.
Judson broke the Blazers lead down to within three points by putting two runs on the board in the top of the fourth with three hits and one error. However, Belhaven continued to advance their lead by tacking on four runs in the fifth inning and tallied four more in the sixth inning to claim the win and run rule the Eagles with a final score of 13-2.
Megan Timbs pitched the entire game for the Blazers and gained her third win of the 2010 season. Timbs gave up two runs and allowed five hits with four strikeouts to improve to 3-0. Offensively, Belhaven was led by Wright who went two for three at the plate with a homerun and 4 RBI's followed by Maldonado and Pace who both had two runs batted in.
The Blazers will return to action on Tuesday afternoon at home in a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader with the 25th ranked University of Mobile beginning at 3:00 PM out at Freedom Ridge Park.
