Jackson, MS-Head Coach Rick Fremin and the Belhaven softball program would like to announce the addition of four veteran players for the 2010 campaign. Rebecca Rousseau, Christina Jaques, Rachel Wright, and Sarah Burns have decided to further their education and softball careers at Belhaven College. Each player brings valuable experience at the collegiate level to the 2010 Lady Blazers. Rousseau, Jaques, Wright, and Burns join incoming freshman Katie Sanders, Lizzy Hess, Rian O’Bannon, and Megan Timbs in this year's recruiting class.

Rousseau
Rebecca Rousseau
Rebecca Rousseau attended William Howard Taft High School in San Antonio, Texas and was a four year letter winner at pitcher for the Lady Raiders. She received First Team All-District during her junior and senior year and led the Lady Raiders on the mound to two back to back appearances in the Texas 5A State Regional Finals.

Rousseau then attended Copiah Lincoln Community College in Wesson, MS where she played for Coach Allen Kent. She pitched and played first-base for the Lady Wolves. In 2008, Rousseau pitched in the NJCAA DII National Championship game, was a part of the NJCAA National Runners-Up Team and received the honor of Second Team All-State.

Rousseau finished the 2009 season with a 19-5 record and
a 1.91 ERA in the circle. She racked up 144 strikeouts and helped herself at the plate with a .368 batting average. She was selected as the 2009 team captain and helped lead her team to a division title, a State Championship while receiving First Team All-State and All-Region honors.

“Rebecca had a great season for us, giving us a chance to win every single time she was in the circle,” said Coach Kent. “She really swung a hot bat during the second half of the season. She was a vocal leader on and off the field.”

Jaques
Christina Jaques
Christina Jaques, a native of Orange, TX, attended Bridge City High School and played for Coach Sophia Mount. In high school, Jaques was an All-State catcher and Female Athlete of the Year. Jaques then attended Lamar State College in Port Arthur, TX, and had a dynamic career at shortstop, while playing for Coach Vance Edwards.

In 2008 with the Seahawks, Jaques broke nine program records including runs scored, hits, triples, RBI, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, stolen bases and put-outs. She also led the conference that year in hitting with a .506 batting average, was third in runs scored, fourth in stolen bases and on-base percentage and ninth in hits.

Jaques, was 23rd in the nation in stolen bases, 27th in the nation in batting average, made first team All-Region XIV, was a NFCA All-American as well as All-Midwest Region. In 2009 Jaques hit .491, which ranked 22nd in the nation and swiped 27 stolen bases with 48 runs scored.

“She is a team leader, and her statistics demonstrate the tremendous talent she brings to the field," says Coach Edwards.

Wright
Rachel Wright
Rachel Wright, a native of Encinitas, CA, prepped at La Costa Canyon High School and went on to have an outstanding career at perennial power Palomar College. Palomar has a strong tradition with over 25 Pacific Coast Conference Titles. In her two seasons at Palomar, Wright played left-field and first-base where she put up outstanding numbers. In 2006 Wright made the All-Pacific Coast Conference Team with a .424 overall batting average and had a .515 batting average in conference play. In 2007 she was an All-State, All- Southern California Region, and All-Pacific Coast Conference Team member after leading the team in hitting with a .444 batting average, 6 homeruns, 71-hits, 51-runs scored, and 16 stolen bases.

“The group is very talented and on paper can get it done, however we still have a long ways to go by getting through a fall season and building a team concept with so many new faces," says Coach Fremin. "I am truly looking forward to see what the Lord has in store us this season.”
